7 Reasons to Choose the 2023 Genesis eGV70 vs Acura RDX

These two rivals are so similar in size that it can’t be a deciding factor. The GV70’s 103.6 cubic feet of passenger space is about the same as the 104-cu ft RDX. Cargo areas are 28.9 cu ft (GV70) and 29.5 cu ft (RDX).

So what makes these different? It comes down to power, efficiency, standard features, special extras, and value.

  1. Power, Power, Power

If you look at the level of power in this rivalry, you may be surprised. The 2023 Acura RDX has one powertrain, and it isn’t very powerful. The four-cylinder turbo generates 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Regardless of how much is spent to buy the Acura RDX, the driver will never have more horsepower than this.

In complete contrast, the Genesis SUV offers three remarkable powertrains. The first is a turbo four. It generates 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. That’s already better than the Acura. Any driver would value the extra 38 horsepower and additional 31 lb-ft of torque.

The GV70 V6 generates an even more exciting 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. Clearly Genesis wants the driver to have a good time behind the wheel. You’ll never feel any hesitation in these SUVs when you need to pass at highway speeds. As Kelley Blue Book has written, nothing in the Acura RDX lineup comes close.

Even better, the 2023 Genesis eGV70 generates 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. The emphasis on performance is even more impressive with the Boost Mode. It adds 54 horsepower for super-fast sprints.

  2. Efficiency

You would think the higher-horsepower Genesis might have different fuel economy, but the 300-horsepower engine can claim the same fuel efficiency as the 275-horsepower Acura. The base engines of both brands earn 22 mpg city and 28 mpg. That’s 24 mpg.

And that’s just a smidge ahead of the 375-horsepower V6. It earns 23 mpg. Gas mileage is 21 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. Then there’s the 2023 electrified GV70 with its 249-mile electric range. It never needs gasoline.

  3. All Wheel Drive

The cost of the Acura RDX does not include all-wheel drive. So, if you want it, you’ll quickly raise the price to match the AWD GV70.

Standard all-wheel drive is an essential element of the Genesis emphasis on performance. After all, with all-wheel drive you can utilize fuel-saving front-wheel drive or racy rear-wheel drive. When confronted with bad weather conditions or dirt roads, the on-demand all-wheel drive system adds an extra measure of safety and ensures traction in difficult situations.

As for the 2023 Genesis electrified GV70, the all-wheel drive is especially capable. That’s because this powertrain has front and rear motors. These motors drive the individual axles and provide the most refined all-wheel drive ever. Regenerative braking helps recharge the battery. At charging stations, this electric SUV can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in about 18 minutes.

Interior
  1. Rankings and Awards

When introduced, the Genesis GV70 scored the 2022 MotorTrend SUV of the Year. At Edmunds, the 2023 Genesis GV70 is ranked #1 out of 12 small luxury SUVs. They call it a “knockout vehicle”, “high performer across the board,” and an unmatched value.

Car and Driver praises it for fabulous looks. Their editors like the whole package so much that they have named it to the 2023 10Best List. The GV70 has the highest rating among compact luxury SUVs at Kelley Blue Book and US News and World Review.

Forbes writes that the GV70 puts the competition on notice. They write about the exterior, calling it a windswept, curvaceously alluring body. In fact, they praise it for its “legit luxury design, inside and out.”

  2. Dash Tech Comparison

Forbes complains that the Acura RDX interior isn’t as modern or futuristic as it should be. One reason is that it completely lacks a digital instrument panel, relying instead on a 7-inch MID display across the lineup.

Another reason the Acura isn’t on par with the Genesis and many others is that navigation is not standard. Furthermore, the larger infotainment screen requires the Advance package. It is a 10.2 inch screen that is controlled by a touchpad that critics call annoying.

On the other hand, the GV70 has a state-of-the-art 14.5-inch infotainment screen without requiring a technology package. This allows for a split screen, showing the audio menu and navigation maps simultaneously.

With Genesis models, navigation is always standard. A multi-media controller is as easy to use as a touchscreen, but it’s close to the driver’s righthand. Most models have a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel.

  1. Unique Aspects of the 2023 Genesis GV70

Adding to the Genesis luxury SUV’s performance, owners can enjoy a special electronic suspension with cameras. This Road Preview regulates ride quality in real time. Not only is this more comfortable for passengers, it’s a boon for handling as the SUV responds with extreme precision to the driver’s commands.

Automatic parking has never been easier than with the GV70. Although you can stay in the vehicle, it is convenient that you may stand aside with the keyfob while the vehicle handles tight maneuvering into parallel or perpendicular spaces.

Leading the way in the field of Biometric applications in automotives, the GV70 offers a Fingerprint Authentication System. This can be used to instruct the SUV to adjust the seat, mirrors and infotainment system to a driver’s preference. Even better, it can be used in place of a key to start the car.

Highway Driver Assist, a semi-autonomous system, is a Genesis standard with no equal on the Acura RDX. Then there are other details such as the availability of ventilated seats on more models and the special touch type dual zone automatic climate controls. Best of all, the GV70 alone offers Ergo Motion massaging chairs.

  2. Price and Value

The Acura RDX price starts out lower than the Genesis GV70 price, and that may be the deciding factor for some people. However, it is a smokescreen. It would be easy to spend more on the Acura and get less.

It’s all about packaging, and Genesis provides a better package throughout the trim levels. Despite its price increases with every “package”, as it calls trim levels, the Acura RDX equipment does not match up to the Genesis GV70 or the Genesis eGV70.

Kelley Blue Book calls the GV70 “a great value story” and “appealing on every level.” In fact, they have named it the Compact Luxury SUV Best Buy of 2023.

Cost of ownership favors the GV70 as well. Acura’s 4-year limited warranty offers less coverage than the 5-year Genesis limited warranty. Furthermore Acura’s 6-year powertrain warranty is far shorter than the 10-year Genesis powertrain warranty.

Conclusion

With so much to recommend it, and so many critics in agreement, the 2023 Genesis GV70 seems the SUV to test drive. You’ll find it at Genesis of Gilbert.
