2024 Genesis GV70 Dominates the Mercedes Benz GLC Class in the Rankings

If you check Motor Trend, they give the number one spot to the 2024 Genesis GV70. If you check the same luxury compact SUV listings at US News and World Report, again the GV70 is ranked #1.

Since Mercedes Benz is often the presumed winner in a luxury car comparison, we wanted to examine how the GV70 has moved to the top.

  1. GV70 and GLC 300 Share Cabin Size, Differ on Cargo Size

There’s very little difference in the cabin size. Some numbers favor the Mercedes while others favor the Genesis. As for rear legroom, the Mercedes claims only a tiny fraction of an inch more than the GV70. It’s a matter of 37.4 vs 37.2 inches.

However, when you account for the cargo hold, the equation changes. The Mercedes GLC 300 lacks about 10 cubes of cargo space if the seats are in place. This could be inconvenient to frequent travelers. It certainly is an aspect to consider for shoppers.

  2. Entry Level Performance Favors the GV70 in Every Way

Driving enthusiasts love luxury cars, and they expect real performance. If you didn’t know better, you’d assume the Mercedes-Benz has the most power in this comparison.

Actually, the GV70 has a 45-horsepower edge over the Mercedes. Furthermore, it has an extra 16 lb-ft of torque. Car and Driver praises its handling, noting a responsive chassis and communicative steering.

Plus you can step up to the GV70 3.5T and enjoy an even speedier twin turbo engine. If that’s not good enough, you can step up again to the electric GV70 for the most competitive horsepower and torque.

That number one ranking at Motor Trend certainly indicates that the GV70 lives up to its performance potential. Car and Driver has named the GV70 as one of its 10Best with a 10/10 score, and this year it includes the electric GV70 as well.

  3. Connectivity Category Favors the Genesis

For those who buy luxury models to get the best of everything, it often comes as a surprise that Mercedes holds back. Indeed, in this case, the GLC Class starts out with a smaller 11.9-inch touchscreen. The Genesis GV70 has a 14.5-inch display on every model.

The Mercedes has a larger standard digital gauge cluster at first, but the GV70 zooms in with a big 12.3-inch digital display behind the steering wheel in upper trims. As for the system’s speed and ease of use, critics agree that the Genesis system is simply easier.

On the Genesis, regular controls supplement the touch screen and voice controls. The Mercedes relies very heavily on touch and voice, and so it doesn’t supply physical controls. You can learn more about GV70 features and trim levels in this new GV70 review.

  1. Driver Assistance and Other Technology Favors the GV70

In terms of driver assistance, the two have much in common. However, the Mercedes holds back on two vital functions that drivers really love.

Only the Genesis GV70 price includes a lane keep assist at the entry level. Furthermore, only the GV70 sedan includes adaptive cruise control, regardless of price.

Both automakers supply an autobrake for forward collision warnings and pedestrian dangers. Both have a blind spot system to help you avoid side collision scenarios. Likewise, drivers may get a warning from an attention monitor. In another example, there’s a rear cross traffic alert to reduce the chances of backing into a moving vehicle.

    Conclusion

From its glamorous good looks to its long list of amenities and technologies, the 2024 Genesis GV70 stays ahead of its rival, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC Class.
